Diner en Blanc is a tradition that began in Paris over 25 years ago. Participants dress in all white attire and bring their own gourmet picnic.

On Thursday night 3,500 people attended Philadelphia's version of the event. The location is kept a secret until an hour before the dinner. The concept encourages locals to adopt a new appreciation for an area of the city. This year's event was located on the first three blocks of South Broad Street.

"It's important for people to come together, I think events like this promote world peace," said Elan Elkai, 26 of Philadelphia.
