RUSHING OFFENSE
With backups at center and both guard spots, the Eagles' ground game again struggled. They had just one rushing first down a week after having three. LeSean McCoy, who gained just 22 yards on 19 carries last week, managed just 17 on 10 carries, including two yards on four first-half carries.
Grade: F
PASSING OFFENSE
Nick Foles finished with a 42.3 passer rating, completing just 48.8 percent of his passes and throwing two interceptions. In the first three quarters, he averaged just 4.1 yards per attempt. Jeremy Maclin was targeted 16 times, but had just five receptions.
Grade: D-minus
RUN DEFENSE
The 49ers, who came into the game averaging just 4.1 yards per carry, rushed for 218 yards, including 110 on 17 first-half carries. Thirty-one-year-old Frank Gore rushed for 119 yards and quarterback Colin Kaepernick had 58 on seven runs, including a killer 16-yarder around end on a third-and-13 in the fourth quarter.
Grade: C-minus
PASS DEFENSE
The Eagles sacked Colin Kaepernick four times and Malcolm Jenkins returned an interception 53 yards for a touchdown. The Eagles held Kaepernick to 217 passing yards, but gave up two touchdown passes, a crazy 55-yard catch and run to a wide-open Frank Gore that gave the Niners a 10-7 lead, and a 12-yarder to Stevie Johnson. Cary Williams had a costly defensive holding penalty on a third-and-15 in the third quarter.
Grade: C-plus
SPECIAL TEAMS
Trey Burton blocked a first-quarter punt that Brad Smith recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. Darren Sproles returned a punt 82 yards for another touchdown. Punter Donnie Jones averaged 48.5 yards. About the only negative was an illegal block in the back penalty that backed the Eagles up on their final possession.
Grade: A-plus
OVERALL
They were outgained 407 yards to 213. Their defense was on the field for 42-plus minutes. Nick Foles had just 103 passing yards and the Eagles had just five first downs in the first three quarters. And yet, and yet, they were in this game to the bitter end and lost on the road to the 49ers by just five points. That has to count for something.
