Sixers interview Washington guard Markelle Fultz
The point guard out of Washington is projected to go first in the June 22 draft by several mock drafts.
CHICAGO – The 76ers interviewed Markelle Fultz Wednesday night at the NBA Draft Combine.
The point guard out of Washington is projected to go first in the June 22 draft by several mock drafts. The Sixers have an 11.9 percent chance of winning Tuesday's NBA draft lottery after finishing with the fourth-worst record at 28-54. The team will also receive the Los Angeles Lakers' first-round pick unless the Lakers finish in the top three of the draft lottery.
Fultz is extremely versatile. He can score and create opportunities for others. His first step is lighting quick and he changes directions with ease. The Maryland native also can pull up and shoot the three-pointer. He made 41.3 percent of his shots from the college three-point range.
The only question mark is his ability to play alongside Ben Simmons. Both players thrive with the ball in their hands. Fultz probably won't handle the ball as much as he's accustomed to if he plays alongside Simmons, who will assume the point guard duties.
However, one of Fultz's associates thinks the Sixers are a good destination.
"Ben likes to pass that thing and he likes to shoot that thing," Keith Williams said.
Wednesday was the only day Fultz spent at the combine. He came just to interview with teams.
The Sixers are expected to interview Kentucky point guard De'Aaron Fox on Thursday. Fox could be among the first four picks. Villanova guard Josh Hart, a second-round prospect, is unlikely to interview with the Sixers here.
