Get in gear for this year's Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 15. During their 20th annual celebration, the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia will be celebrating those cyclists who already bike to work every day and encouraging more people to give biking to work a try.

"Biking to work is not as intimidating as it might seem. I actually look forward to my commute at the end of the day. It can be fun," said Alex Doty, executive director of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia. The coalition also promotes other benefits of biking to work like that it saves time, money, lowers stress and is good exercise.

In preparation for the big celebration, The Coalition is putting together four morning Energizing Stations around the city as well as other events during the day including, a LOVE Park rally and a special Happy Hour and Awards Ceremony at Yards Brewery on Delaware Avenue.

The fun will be lasting all day.

Morning: Free coffee, snacks, and other swag will be available from 8am-10am at Energizer Stations located at LOVE Park, Clark Park, the Penn Museum and 13th and Spruce Streets. There will also be a ride from Clark Park (44th & Chester) to Love Park starting at 8 a.m.

Afternoon: Then, from 3pm to 5pm, there will be Bike to Work Day community events at Chew Playground (18th and Washington) and 44th and Walnut. The day will end at Yards Brewery at 901 Delaware Avenue, with a Happy Hour beginning at 4:30pm. All beers with be $3.

Until May 15, registrants will be able to vote in the Coalition's First Annual Bike To Work Day Awards, which will recognize things like Philadelphia's Bike-Friendly Business of the Year and local Bicyclist of the Year.

If this will be your first time biking to work, Doty encourages you to talk with friends and co-workers who already do it for good advice on the best route to take. "The biggest challenge is choosing your route because it might be different than if you were driving to work."

Make sure to register online as soon as possible. Get more information about Bike to Work Day here.
