Garces to open Buena Onda in Rittenhouse

No timeline for the next Baja-inspired taqueria.

Jose Garces and crew are going into 1735 Chestnut St. in Rittenhouse for the second location of Buena Onda, the Baja-inspired taqueria.

Garces CEO Rob Keddie tells me that it will be similar in format to the first location, which opened in spring 2015 at the Granary (1901 Callowhill St., near Logan Circle).

The location is across the street from Di Bruno Bros. - just steps off 18th Street and one of the most food-centric intersections in Center City.

As the lease was signed only last week, "we still have a lot to figure out, so no timeline for opening yet," Keddie said.

Garces - who has Tinto, Village Whiskey, and Volver in the general area - seems to be keen on further expansion for this casual concept.

Marc Vetri and partners trod a similar path. Pizzeria Vetri's flagship location is in the Granary along Callowhill Street, and its second location is at 1615 Chancellor St., a few blocks from the future Buena Onda.

Paige Jaffe, first vice president of CBRE, leasing agent for the Granary, said the new location would "serve the office canyon and Rittenhouse Square residential community."
