Hatboro's 58 York is a dramatic conversion of Cafe La Fontana

The sprawling space was stripped down to the walls, keeping brick, adding wood and metal, and turning the middle of the front dining room into an enormous bar with 40 beer taps.

The crew from Buona Via in Horsham and partner Rick Ianieri are behind 58 York  (58 S. York Rd., Hatboro, 215-672-8118), an American pub specializing in steaks.

It's a dramatic remake of the Italian destination Cafe La Fontana, which closed in 2014 after more than two decades.

Ianieri, a builder, stripped the sprawling space down to the walls, keeping brick, adding wood and metal, and turning the middle of the front dining room into an enormous bar with 40 beer taps.

A balcony lounge overlooks the bar. A raw bar — for show, as there are no seats — juts out from the kitchen. There are also multiple additional rooms for a la carte and private dining.

Besides steaks and raw bar, the menu includes burgers, melts, sandwiches, and salads. La Fontana's brick oven remains, so there's pizza on the menu.

It opens at 11 a.m. and serves late.
