Joe's Steaks opening in Fishtown

Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop (the former Chink's Steaks on Torresdale Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia) is adding a second location in late summer or fall, and it will be in Fishtown.

It will take over the former New Acropolis diner, on the corner of Girard and Frankford Avenues, near Johnny Brenda's, Sancho Pistola's, Frankford Hall and Fette Sau - and across the intersection from the planned Calexico.

Owner Joe Groh will keep late hours at the new shop, which will accommodate 50 to 60 people for tableside seating and will have a grill in the front window and expanded pickle and pepper bar.

Joe's PR agency is making it clear that the original shop - whose neighborhood has deteriorated - will remain open, though the rep says it most likely will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays after the new place opens.
