Nicole Marquis, creator of HipCityVeg and Charlie was a sinner., is looking at early June now for her third vegan concept, a taqueria that will be known as JoséJosé.
JoséJosé - which will serve from lunchtime through late night daily - has been steeped in utter silence. Marquis has never publicly acknowledged the project, two doors from the original HipCityVeg, at 133 S. 18th St. near Rittenhouse Square. It is the former short-lived Crumbs Bake Shop on the corner of 18th and Moravian Streets, across the alley from a.kitchen.
The only clues were "Marquis Latin Philly LLC," the corporate name on an application for a liquor license, combined with the fact that real estate mogul and City Council candidate Allan Domb, Marquis' landlord at Charlie was a sinner., owns the property.
Marquis burst onto the scene only three years ago, doling out vegan fast food from a storefront with HipCityVeg. A University City branch opened in October 2013. Last May, she opened Charlie was a sinner., a noirish vegan bar.
Just as Marquis has never talked too much about Charlie and his sinning ways, I'm sure she'll have little to say about this JoséJosé character - guessing he's not the Mexican singer.
