Juniper Commons closes after less than 6 months

Last night was May 30. The restaurant, the third from Sbraga following his hits Sbraga and The Fat Ham, opened to so-so critical response.

Juniper Commons - chef Kevin Sbraga's homage to the 1980s on the corner of Broad and South Streets - shut down after less than six months.

Its last night was Saturday, May 30.

In reporting the impending closing, Foobooz quoted a statement attributed to Sbraga's organization that described a "very tough decision to close" as it thanked the team members and guests who "took the journey" with them.

(Journey? As in "Don't Stop Believin'.")

The restaurant, the third from Sbraga following his hits Sbraga and The Fat Ham, opened to so-so critical response.

Over the weekend, Sbraga was fairly silent. In a brief chat, he said he was unsure of what would come next for the space at the SouthStar. His landlord at all three restaurants is developer Carl Dranoff.

While Sbraga is a Top Chef, the weekend also will see a closing from an Iron Chef, as Jose Garces is closing Rosa Blanca to retool it into a cafe.
