Meritage space to get new restaurant, Lou Bird's

The American bar/restaurant is named after the owners' daughter.

The prime southwest corner of 20th and Lombard Streets, which housed Meritage for nine years until September 2015, has a new restaurant occupant on the way.

Norris and Debbie Jordan, who live nearby, are fixing it up extensively to yield what he calls a high-end American bar/restaurant called Lou Bird's, picking up the nickname of their 9-year-old daughter, Lexi.

Debbie Jordan owns the Happy Rooster, the timeless fixture at 16th and Sansom Streets. While the Rooster seats about 40 people, Lou Bird's will accommodate about twice that, inside and out. Lou Bird's will provide additional balance for the intersection, home to the popular Pub & Kitchen across 20th Street.

Norris Jordan says they're aiming at an April 1 opening - perhaps an ambitious schedule given that they're moving the restrooms to improve the layout and are popping in new windows and other features.
