Milkhouse: More grilled cheese in Rittenhouse
The Suburban Station shop opens a branch on 19th Street near Chestnut.
It's almost too gouda to be true: Rittenhouse's grilled-cheese options are expanding.
Barely 10 days after Reading Terminal Market's MeltKraft opened a branch at 46 S. 17th St., across from the Westin Hotel, here comes another one - two blocks away.
Milkhouse - whose menu includes panini-pressed grilled cheese sandwiches, soup, breakfast sandwiches, fries, milkshakes and La Colombe drip coffee - has taken over for Matyson at 37 S. 19th St., near Rittenhouse Square.
The original Milkhouse opened last fall in Suburban Station, a collaboration among Tommy Guest (Philly Pretzel Factory), Brendan Smith (Smiths in Rittenhouse), and Shannon Heil.
Everything is locally sourced and made from scratch. Gluten-free bread is available, too.
Its first-week hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21 to Thursday, Sept. 24. On papal weekend, it will be open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. After the pope leaves, it will open for breakfast weekdays and stay open late Fridays and Saturdays to feed the bar crowds.
