Philly Beer Week names a new director

Philly Beer Week has a new executive director.

Kristine Kennedy replaces founder Don Russell, who resigned in December.

Kennedy made it onto the board's radar because of her work with Fishtown's Penn Treaty Park.

William Reed of Standard Tap says his business partner, Paul Kimport, used to run the Shad Fest. After he stepped down, Kennedy took it over and improved it, Reed said.

Kennedy is a project manager in private industry and likes porters and Scottish ales.

Reed said the job requirements include organizational skills and energy.

"At Opening Tap, for example, she won't be the person up on stage with a microphone," he said. "She'll be in the back with a clipboard, watching everything."
