Tastykake's Krimpets featured on 'Unwrapped 2.0'

Old-school snacks will be described on the TV.

It was 1927. Calvin Coolidge was in the White House, and Tasty Baking introduced a snack-size sponge cake. Workers had trouble getting the moist treats out of the pans, so - as Tasty tales have it - someone suggested that the bakers "crimp it."

In Tasty fashion, the "c" became a "k" and Tasty Baking was shipping Krimpets from its longtime home on Hunting Park Avenue.

Saturday, Nov.14's episode of the show Unwrapped 2.0 (8 p.m., Food Network) - hosted by Alfonso Ribeiro - will highlight old-school snacks, including the butterscotch Krimpet.

Tasty - now based at the Navy Yard - is about to roll out some seasonal varities, including red velvet Kandy Kakes; gingerbread Kandy Kakes; gingerbread mini donuts; salted caramel mini donuts; and red velvet mini donuts
