Tattle: 'American Idol' gives rocker Steven Tyler a tumble

AEROSMITH front man Steven Tyler has signed on to become an "American Idol" judge, as the Fox show hustles to replace Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres.

AEROSMITH front man Steven Tyler has signed on to become an "American Idol" judge, as the Fox show hustles to replace Simon Cowell and Ellen DeGeneres.

At least in this job, the big-haired, bigger-mouthed singer could remain safely seated. He's taken a few nasty tumbles during recent Aerosmith gigs, breaking a shoulder last autumn. His latest unintentional stage dive occurred Tuesday in Toronto as the band was performing "Love in an Elevator."

Video shows Tyler hip-bumping guitarist Joe Perry, who bumps back and sends the spindly rocker flying. The two apparently don't get along, but there's no reason to think Perry wanted to push him offstage . . . is there?

Tyler admitted an addiction to painkillers and headed to rehab in December. Almost broke up the band, too. But maybe he shouldn't quit his night job yet.

Early reaction to the "Idol" news, reported by the Los Angeles Times but not yet confirmed by Fox, is that although he may know music, Tyler's too old (62!) and too spacey to do the job right.

Are we sensing a Paula Abdul-worthy hot mess in the making? Guess if it gets people to tune

in . . .

Fox has been scrambling to refresh its fading juggernaut, heading toward season 10 and with no venomous Cowell to snipe up some excitement. Rumors that Fox was in talks with Tyler and actress/singer Jennifer Lopez leaked in July.

Although it's been reported that judge Kara DioGuardi was fired, no official word's come out. The network recently announced that Nigel Lythgoe will return to the "A.I." executive-producer job he left in 2008.

Negotiations with Lopez have stalled, reportedly due to her demands. Should she ultimately sign on, all we can say is: Steve Tyler, don't even think about going hip to hip with her!

Google if you dare

Cameron Diaz and Jessica Biel are dangerous. And not just in the same room with Justin Timberlake.

A security company found that Timberlake-ex Diaz is the celebrity name that attracts the most malicious spyware in a Web search. She bumps Biel, Justin's current squeeze, to third place in the fourth annual McAfee Most Dangerous Celebrities in Cyberspace list, announced yesterday. Julia Roberts grabbed the second rung.

This year's list was heavily weighted with movie stars and models, while politicians like Barack Obama were among the safest searches, said McAfee, which sells protective software.

Others in the top 10 included Gisele Bündchen, Brad Pitt, Adriana Lima, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Nicole Kidman (an unexpected tie for 7th place), Tom Cruise, Heidi Klum and Penelope Cruz in 9th, and Anna Paquin.

Yo, yo, yo

It's an autobiography, so why shouldn't Ricky Martin call his memoir "Me"? The Puerto Rican singer's tome is due out Nov. 2. There's a Spanish-language version, too, titled "Yo." That's "me" in Spanish.

Martin has said that planning the book helped him reveal earlier this year that he is gay. Martin said in a statement that exploring his past was not easy but allowed for an "incredible spiritual journey."

Well, you know what they say - wherever you go, there you are.

Which brings us to . . .

Joaquin Phoenix, former actor and would be hip-hop artist whose inexplicable career switch is the subject of the Casey Affleck-directed documentary "I'm Still Here." It opens at the Toronto Film Festival next month, but you can check out a trailer online.

Go on. You know you want to.

Attack of the killer bedbugs

No 3-D glasses needed to view the latest creature feature at the popular AMC Empire 25 movie theater in Times Square.

Those critters ripping at your flesh are real.

Bedbugs were found in two seats during an Aug. 3 inspection, and a guest reported being bitten last weekend at the New York City theater. It was sprayed, and the offending seats replaced, before reopening Wednesday. A spokesman said all AMC theaters in Manhattan were inspected. An attack had been reported at a Harlem AMC, too.

LaBelle on Broadway

Patti LaBelle will join the cast of the hit Broadway musical "Fela!" on Sept. 14, taking over the role of Fela's mother (Funmilayo Anikulapo-Kuti). She'll remain with the show, the story of legendary Nigerian musician Fela Kuti, through its scheduled final performance in January. The Tony Award winner opened at New York's Eugene O'Neill Theatre in November.
