WXPN adds Stephen Kallao as new 'World Cafe' contributing host

A radio industry veteran, Kallao got involved in the business more than 20 years ago.

WXPN-FM (88.5)  has added a voice to its World Cafe program, announcing  that radio veteran Stephen Kallao will be a  contributing host.

Kallao, a Chicago native, will produce radio and special features for the program, as well as conduct interviews with musicians. World Cafe host Talia Schlanger said in a release she was excited to welcome Kallao to the show.

"Not only is his passion for music infectious, but he has the experience, chops, and drive to bring that passion to life on the radio," Schlanger said. "I know our listeners will love sharing in Stephen's musical taste, and I can't wait to do the same."

Kallao got involved in the business more than 20 years ago and has worked at stations including WYMS and WLUM in Milwaukee, Tucson's KFMA, KNRK in Portland, Ore., and San Diego's 91X. Positions have included everything from hosting and programming to copywriting and producing. He comes to University of Pennsylvania-owned WXPN from online music service Slacker in San Diego.

Distributed to more than 200 radio stations throughout the United States via NPR, World Cafe attracts more than 500,000 listeners weekly. The show is recorded and produced in Philadelphia.
