* sweetgreen, a Washington, D.C.-based salad and frozen yogurt eatery, opened its first area location this week at Suburban Square, in Ardmore (68 Coulter Ave., 610-642-9400). The menu is simple - signature and make-your-own salads, yogurt with assorted toppings, plus soups and sides - and based on seasonal and local ingredient availability. The chain was founded by Georgetown University grads Nicolas Jammet, Jonathan Neman and Nathaniel Ru in 2007.

* Tavern 17 (220 S. 17th St., 215-790-1799) will be open from noon to 8 p.m. on Christmas Day with a three-course menu that's $25 for adults and $15 for kids up to age 10. Selections include free-range turkey with traditional sides, grilled lamb porterhouse and apricot-glazed salmon, plus appetizer and dessert.

* It's called "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives," but there's no shame in being featured on this hit Food Network show hosted by Guy Fieri. The Wildwoods are proud to announce that Maui's Dog House (8th and New Jersey avenues, North Wildwood, N.J., 609-846-7722) will be featured in an episode airing at 9 p.m. Saturday. The gourmet dog joint is closed for the season but will reopen on or around Good Friday 2011 (April 22), weather depending. The show will repeat at midnight Sunday and 10:30 p.m. Monday.
