Officer Ray Heim, a 12-year police veteran , was still recovering from head and leg injuries at Albert Einstein Medical Center last night after a car accident in Logan Wednesday that left him critically injured, police said.

Heim, 40, assigned to the 39th District, was hospitalized along with two other undercover officers when the unmarked car in which they were riding was hit by a black Pontiac Grand Prix about 2:35 p.m.

One officers was released last night, and the third officer was still in the hospital in stable condition, said Officer Tanya Little, a spokeswoman.

Charges have not been filed against the driver who hit the police car, and the cause of the crash is still under investigation, Little said.

A man arrested Aug. 18 for the 2007 fatal shooting of Eric Caldwell, in Chester, has been charged with murder in two other fatal shootings from 2009 and 2010, the Delaware County District Attorney's Office said yesterday.

James Armstrong, 27, of Chester was charged in the Sept. 20, 2009, shooting death of Felix Pizarro, 19, and in the May 5, 2010, slaying of Larry Carter.

The District Attorney's Office and police are continuing to investigate whether Armstrong is a suspect in other crimes.
