Police trying to ID man who attacked woman getting off SEPTA trolley

Authorities are trying to identify the man who attacked a woman as she was getting off a SEPTA trolley in West Philadelphia earlier this month.

Surveillance video released today shows a woman bumping into a man standing in the doorway as she got off a Route 34 trolley at 47th Street and Baltimore Avenue.

The man then throws a cup at her, follows her off the trolley, and punches her. Police said the assailant grabbed the woman's headphones and the two briefly struggled.

After the altercation, the suspect briefly entered the trolley, then fled on foot toward 46th Street, police said.

The 39-year-old woman received stitches to her lip after the incident, which happened on July 10 at 5:35 p.m.

The suspect is described as black, 20 years old and 5 feet 11 inches tall. He had a thin build and was clean-shaven. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark T-shirt with writing on the front, black shorts, and a multicolor backpack.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 215-686-8477 (TIPS) or send a text message to 773847 (PPDTIP).
