Newtown Theatre set to reopen with 4 classic films

NEWTOWN The historic Newtown Theatre is reopening May 26 after closing for more than six months to bring its projector and sound system into the digital age.

The showing of four classic movies over four nights will mark the reopening of a venue that first showed films in 1906. It used a 35 mm projector until temporarily closing in October.

On May 26, the celebration will start with The Wizard of Oz. The theater will then show The Godfather, Singin' in the Rain, and Casablanca. Ticket prices will match what the theater charged when each movie came out, ranging from 23 cents for Oz to $1.70 for The Godfather.

The Newtown Theatre raised more than $100,000 from the community to buy a digital projector and sound system. For more information, visit www.thenewtowntheatre.com. - Ben Finley
