N.J. reopens Delaware Bay to shellfish fishing
TRENTON - New Jersey has reopened the Delaware Bay shellfish beds. Fishermen were banned from harvesting shellfish on Aug. 19 after two reports of a bacterial illness linked to oysters harvested from the waters.
Officials lifted the ban after sampling and testing shellfish tissue. The Department of Environmental Protection says tests showed the shellfish beds are acceptable for harvesting oysters, clams and mussels.
The ban covered a 130-square-mile part of the bay.
