Funeral set for Delfonics founder

The funeral for Herbert R. "Randy" Cain III, 63, a founding member of the "Philadelphia sound" soul group the Delfonics, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Christ Baptist Church, 950 Jacksonville Rd., Burlington Township.

The funeral for Herbert R. "Randy" Cain III, 63, a founding member of the "Philadelphia sound" soul group the Delfonics, will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at Christ Baptist Church, 950 Jacksonville Rd., Burlington Township.

Mr. Cain died April 9 at home in Maple Shade. In the 1960s he met brothers William and Wilbert Hart while attending Overbrook High School in West Philadelphia. They formed the group the Orphonics, later renamed the Delfonics, and recorded hits such as "La-La (Means I Love You)" and "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)."

Mr. Cain last performed with William Hart on Valentine's Day.

He is survived by sons Randy and Garrett; his mother, Louise; a sister; four grandchildren, and his former wife, Sharon Cathcart.
