Chip Kelly, the Eagles' ever-private coach, was once married for seven years, according to a Washington Post article.
Kelly tries to conceal his private life, and the article was the first time his ex-wife has been mentioned. Kelly has been the subject of books, magazine profiles, and newspaper articles without Jennifer Jenkins' name ever revealed.
Jenkins is a Washington resident who met Kelly in New Hampshire on Thanksgiving in 1989 and married him in 1992 in front of about 250 guests. They divorced in 1999.
Kelly was known to have once been engaged, but he has erroneously been identified as a lifelong bachelor. In 2010, he was the subject of a New York Times article about bachelor coaches. The story said that Kelly once had a wedding called off and that he declined to discuss his personal life because "being single has nothing to do [with] what kind of coach I am."
Jenkins saw The Times article and didn't know why their marriage had become such a secret, according to The Post, which added that Jenkins keeps a wedding photograph on her iPhone because strangers did not believe her.
"Nobody talks about it," she told The Post. "But everybody knows."
