House of the week: An 18th-century farmhouse in Chester County for $624,900
The house sits on one acre, and the property also has two barns.

It would be hard to imagine a bigger switch in home styles than moving from a Fishtown rowhouse to a Downingtown farmhouse built in the 1790s and its surrounding outbuildings on a one-acre spread.
But Brittany and Christian Rubio say it has suited them perfectly.
“There are quirks about it,” said Brittany, citing the twisting staircase.
“It was the character and charm,” said Christian, a federal employee, who said it would be a 45-minute to an hour commute to Philadelphia.
The Rubios have daughters aged 10 and 4 and have been pleased with the schools in Chester County.
They bought the property in 2021. But Christian’s work will soon take the family to Florida.
The three-bedroom, 2½-bathroom farmhouse is 2,360 square feet.
The property also has two barns, an additional storage structure, a covered carport, and space for four additional cars.
The farmhouse has original hardwood floors and deep windows.
The kitchen, a log cabin structure added to the original house, has a vaulted, beamed ceiling and updated appliances, with soapstone countertops and a farmhouse sink. It leads to a large dining area.
The living room and dining room have working gas fireplaces, and the first floor has a flex room, currently used as a home office. And there is an updated powder room.
The primary bedroom has an en suite bath and views of the surrounding area.
The other bedrooms share a hall bath.
A new air-conditioning system was installed in 2024, and the home got new Pella windows and a new door in 2022.
The property is listed by Joymarie DeFruscio of Keller Williams Realty Group for $624,900.
