Keran and Luis Vega had been renting in Roxborough when they decided it was time to buy their first house. They were already sold on the neighborhood and didn’t consider anywhere else.

“A lot people don’t realize it’s Philadelphia,” Luis said. “It’s a family-friendly neighborhood. Safe. There’s a real sense of community.”

The SEPTA 9 bus is a straight shot to Center City, and stores along Henry Avenue, Ridge Avenue, and Main Street in Manayunk are readily accessible. So is Wissahickon Valley Park.

Keran, a music producer specializing in R&B and gospel, and Luis, who owns a security company, bought the three-bedroom home in 2015.

The 1,560-square-foot house was a “fixer-upper,” Luis said, “a lot of potential.” It was built around 1953, he said, and they purchased it from the original owner. It had one bath, and they added a half bath.

But now the Vegas are moving to South Carolina with their 3-year-old daughter to be close to Keran’s parents.

Their renovations brought 21st-century technology into an older home.

The detached two-car garage has Wi-Fi connectivity and an electric vehicle charging station, and there is a home security system with video surveillance.

The garage roof is five years old, and the water heater a year old. The unfinished basement could easily be converted to a home gym, workshop, or additional living space.

The open-concept main level has original hardwood floors and a renovated kitchen with waterfall quartz countertops, a marble backsplash, custom bar sink, brass fixtures, and stainless steel appliances.

The three bedrooms upstairs are fully carpeted.

The house is listed by Jania Daniels of Real Brokerage for $449,900.
