On the market: A rebuilt four-bedroom home in Malvern for $825,000

The house has four bedrooms, 3½ baths and 3,400 square feet, thanks to an addition built in 2020.

The house “went from needing a roof to being rebuilt from the foundation up,” said the owner, a home improvement contractor.

When Anthony Mina bought the Malvern house for himself, partner Jennifer Franz, and their four children in 2010, he thought it might only need a new roof.

But one discovery led to another, and it took a year before they could move in. The house now bears little resemblance to what it was when the original foundation was laid in 1960.

There is now an attached three-story addition, built in 2020, and the house has four bedrooms, 3½ baths and 3,400 square feet.

“It went from needing a roof to being rebuilt from the foundation up,” said Mina, a home improvement contractor.

He and Franz, a fifth-grade teacher, had been looking for a home in the West Chester area but couldn’t find anything they wanted for what they were prepared to pay.

This house, at least, was in a location they liked.

But now they are leaving it behind to move to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, offering the house as is or awaiting some renovations still underway.

Features include a waterfall visible from the sidewalk as you enter, a rooftop-style deck, and a flagstone courtyard.

The main level has light-oak hardwood floors throughout, and the stone fireplace has a wood-burning stove insert that can be removed for conversion to gas.

The open living area includes a chef’s kitchen with a commercial-style gas range and a breakfast nook with a 13-foot quartz island. There is a formal dining room and access to one of the three patios and the one-car garage.

The primary suite has a kitchenette and a rooftop deck and a bathroom with a soaking tub, an oversize shower with dual shower heads, and radiant heated slate floors.

The other two bedrooms on the second floor both have lofts large enough to accommodate full size beds

The second floor has a hall bath with Jacuzzi tub shower, and the third floor has a large en suite bedroom with two lofts that could be subdivided.

Malvern’s shopping area is a block away, and a SEPTA Regional Rail station is two blocks away.

There are several nearby parks as well as walking trails and a basketball court.

The house is listed by Marie Gordon of Compass Realty for $825,000.
