City Council returns with dueling plans for Philly’s trash

Philly burns more than a third of its trash. City Council has dueling plans to address the issue. The city currently sends about a third of its garbage to Reworld, a trash incinerator in Chester – right down the street from Subaru Park. It’s a longtime practice that Councilmember Jamie Gauthier and others say is poisoning Chester’s residents –  69% of whom are Black, and 31% of whom live below the poverty line. The city’s contract with Reworld is expiring and the Parker administration needs Council approval to enter into a new four-year contract with the firm. But this fall, Gauthier and her allies say they plan to block Mayor Parker from renewing the city’s contract with Reworld. 9/11 Remembrance at Philadelphia International Airport

Members of the Transportation Security Administration honor guard, joined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers and Philadelphia Police Department Airport Division officers marched through the airport terminals, stopping at each security checkpoint for a moment of silence to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at Philadelphia International Airport in Philadelphia.
