What I Do

I'm a Senior Reporter who investigates problems in the health system. My specialty is deep dives that hold hospital networks and medical staff accountable for patient safety. I aim to bring light and sometimes heat to broken systems. Got a tip? Feel free to reach me on Signal at @wendyruderman.94

My Background

Before joining The Inquirer in 2002, I covered politics and government corruption for the Bergen Record, Trenton Times, and Associated Press. My career has also taken me to The New York Times as police bureau chief and to The Marshall Project as a staff writer. My work has been honored with numerous national awards, including the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Reporting.

I earned my master's from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and my bachelor's from McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College). I currently serve on the ethics program advisory council at Villanova University. I am the co-author of the true crime book "BUSTED: A Tale of Corruption and Betrayal in The City of Brotherly Love" (HarperCollins, 2014). I live in South Jersey with my high-strung but lovable dog, Beau, and have two amazing, adult sons.
