A retired Bristol Township police officer who later worked as a school security chief was arrested Friday on child pornography charges.

Police say David Jayne, 63, was allegedly in possession of 20 years worth of child sexual abuse material.

“This is a deeply disturbing investigation, and there is no place for this in our society,” Bristol Township Police Chief C.J. Winik told the Bucks County Courier Times.

Court records show that Jayne was arraigned on three child-abuse-material-related felony charges and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next month. As of Friday, he was listed as being held in confinement at Bucks County Corrections Center with a $50,000 bail amount, the court docket said. According to 6abc, Jayne posted 10% of his cash bail on Friday, which Winik called “extremely disappointing.” The police chief called Jayne a danger to society.

Jayne worked as a Bristol Township police officer from 1989 through 2000, the Courier Times reported. In 2002, he went on to work as a school police officer for the Bristol Township School District. He was promoted to District Security Coordinator around 2010, according to public records. Jayne worked //until 2023 //with the school district, where he also served as the district’s safety and security coordinator.

In a statement, Bristol Township police said it didn’t have any evidence that Jayne had local victims.

“Like all individuals we hire, this person had active and fully cleared Pennsylvania Child Abuse, Pennsylvania Criminal History, FBI Criminal Background, and all other required clearances on file with the district throughout their employment,” the Bristol Township School District said in a statement provided to news outlets. The statement added that it was cooperating with law enforcement in its ongoing investigation.

“Our focus remains on maintaining a safe, secure, and supportive environment for all students and staff,” the school district said. “The district has established policies and procedures designed to protect students, and we continuously review and strengthen these measures.”

Police said in a press release that they opened an investigation on the former officer on Tuesday after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about a possible child pornography being circulated from a Bristol Township location. The Bristol Township police worked with Bucks County Detectives and identified Jayne’s Levittown home as the source. Jayne has owned the home since at least 2007, according to public records. Police executed a search warrant on Friday and arrested Jayne.

Police are asking anyone with information about this investigation or Jayne to contact Detective Ashley Landis at 267-812-3029 or at alandis180@bristolpd.org.
