Man, 22, dies after Feltonville shooting 2 blocks from Tuesday homicide

A 22-year-old man was fatally shot Wednesday night a block from where a 19-year-old man was slain the day before. Police believe the pair of homicides are connected.

A 22-year-old man died of several gunshot wounds after a shooting in the city's Feltonville section Wednesday night.

The victim, who has not yet been officially identified, was at the corner of 4th and Cayuga streets around 9:30 p.m. when a gunman approached him and fired at least 10 shots at him at point-blank range, wounding him several times in the torso, Chief Inspector Scott Small said at the scene. Police found the man lying on the sidewalk and took him to Temple University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:48 p.m.

The shooter was described by police as a man with a light complexion who wore a dark hooded sweatshirt covering his face and may have fled in a dark-colored -- possibly dark green -- vehicle westbound on Cayuga Street from where the victim fell.

A number of witnesses were taken to the Homicide Unit to be interviewed, Small said. A bar on the corner adjacent to where the shooting took place was crowded with patrons as police taped off the intersection and investigated the homicide. The fatal shooting came on the heels of another shooting two blocks away on Tuesday night in which 19-year-old Craig Thomas, who lived on Orianna Street around the corner from Wednesday night's shooting, died.

Police sources said they believe an argument motivated Thomas' killing. Officers did not disclose a motive in Wednesday night's shooting, but said they believe the two homicides are related.

Police obtained video of the shooting from a survellance camera near the corner, and a source said investigators have reason to believe the shooter may have accidentally wounded himself during the shooting. No arrest was made as of early Thursday morning.
