Police sources have said that the victim in Tuesday morning's fatal shooting in Center City was not a tourist who was taking pictures in LOVE Park, as some news reports initially indicated.
Sources said the 38-year-old man, who police said suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen when an alleged robber fired at him eight times, was involved with dealing drugs in the area. The Daily News is withholding the victim's name until police officially release it, but a check of his court record showed previous arrests for drug and gun charges.
Police said it was unclear exactly why he was with a group of people at the corner of 15th Street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard shortly after 2:30 a.m. when gunfire erupted, but said that the shooting appeared to stem from a robbery. The victim was wounded once and rushed to Hahnemann University Hospital, where he later died.
The fatal shooting remains under investigation by homicide detectives.
