Blaxploitation star, 'Chopped' host return to Philly to promote Dining Out for Life

Blaxploitation legend Pam Grier is in Philadelphia today, along with chef Daisy Martinez, Chopped host Ted Allen and Project Runway: All Stars victor Mondo Guerra, filming a promo spot for Dining Out for Life at the Hotel Monaco.

Grier has been participating in Dining Out for Life -- an annual evening where restaurants donate proceeds to local AIDS organizations -- for five years. Dining Out for Life occurs on April 14 this year. Participating restuarants have yet to be announced.

"It's all about the spiritual communion of dining," Grier, the star of Foxy Brown and Quentin Tarantino's Jackie Brown, said from the Hotel Monaco. "Each year we raise more and more awareness. People don't want to be preached to, they want to participate."

Grier has a lofty goals for the campaign: "We want people to say, 'HIV/AIDS, what happened to that?'"

Since spending time in Philadelphia to promote Dining Out for Life, Grier has become familiar with aspect of Philadelphia: "Everyone has their favorite restaurant," Grier said, adding she loves all the vegan and vegetariant options in the city. "They invite me and I gain 10 pounds in a day."
