Bethlehem candy company’s Peeps to get 'Lego Movie' treatment

Bethlehem's Just Born candy company may soon make its way to the big screen thanks to their beloved Peeps candy and Detroit Rock City director Adam Rifkin. And, if we're lucky, it's going to be a "Lego Movie-style family epic."
Rifkin optioned the film and TV rights to Peeps recently, and Just Born has already accepted his pitch for the Lego Movie-style film he's hoping for. The plot reportedly will revolve around a lost little Peep that becomes separated from his friends at a Peeps diorama contest and must find his way back before the contest begins. So, basically, Homeward Bound with candy instead of dogs.
As Deadline explains, the Peeps movie idea came from Rifkin watching his kids building a diorama like what will be in the film:
Rifkin got the idea from watching his niece and nephew construct their own Peeps diorama for a school project. That led him to discover the elaborate annual contests hosted by the likes of the Washington Post, whose winning entry this year was a black and white diorama of Martin Luther King, Jr.'s iconic "I Have A Dream" speech – fashioned, of course, entirely out of the sugar-dusted marshmallows.
Touching, but with Just Born selling around $2 billion in Peeps a year, it really was just a matter of time until Peeps got a movie deal. Personally, though, I'll be holding out for a Peanut Chews tour de force—maybe put Tarantino in the director's chair. Any investors out there?
