The Philadelphia 76ers' halftime concert series kicks off this week with a focus on throwback stars.
This year's lineup features R&B group Bell Biv DeVoe, classic hip-hoppers (and favorites of former Mayor Michael Nutter) the Sugarhill Gang, dance duo Nina Sky, and rapper Biz Markie, the Sixers announced Tuesday.
Bell Biv DeVoe will kick off the four-part concert series on Friday with a performance of their hit "Poison," at halftime for the evening's game against the Orlando Magic. The Sugarhill Gang, meanwhile, will perform "Rapper's Delight" and "Apache (Jump On It)" on January 20 at that day's game against the Portland Trailblazers.
Nina Sky performs "Move Ya Body" on March 3 during halftime against the New York Nicks, and Biz Markie -- who was just in Philly for a pre-Thanksgiving party at Silk City -- takes over with "Just a Friend" on March 17 against the Dallas Mavericks.
Last season's halftime lineup featured performances from Naughty By Nature, Montell Jordan, Cupid, and Tag Team.
The announcement of this season's halftime performers comes following the rescheduling of Sevyn Streeter's performance of the National Anthem at a Sixers game, which was initially scheduled for Oct. 26.
Sixers management canceled the performance last minute over Streeter's "We Matter" Jersey, but later rescheduled the performance for Dec. 16, when the Sixers host the Lakers.
Tickets for the upcoming Sixers games featuring special halftime performances are available online now.
