Kanye West and Jay-Z's Watch The Throne Setlist
There were no literal thrones to watch on Wednesday night during Kanye West and Jay-Z's two-kingpins-for-the-price-of-one Watch the Throne tour at the Wells Fargo Center. In fact, other than cliched fireballs and inconsequential video backgrounds, there wasn't much staging to speak of at all during the just over two hour 36 song sold out show.
And that was just as well, because both of these majordomos - Jay-Z, the super-confident masterfully flowing emcee, with his Yankee cap cocked to the side; and Kanye, the more frenetic, wildly unpredictable producer-turned-rapper who made the beats to the lion's share of the night's endless stream of hits, and dressed as a rap gladiator in a black leather tunic - have more than enough charisma to carry the day.
Excellent show, with two of the dominant rap stars as rock stars of the past decade reveling in each others hot shotness, and holding a crowd that stood on its feet all night long in rapt attention. Though it was Jay who got the most unconditional love - he's got to be the only man alive who can walk into a Philadelphia sports arena and celebrate his New York loving "Empire State Of Mind" without generating a single boo.
