The brewpub boom is spreading to the city.

While upstart Crime & Punishment in Brewerytown wends its way through a nightmarish spool of red tape, know that Tom Baker and Peggy Zwerver of Mount Airy's Earth Bread + Brewery are part of a deal for a brewpub in the new 1720 Fairmount, a mixed-use building near the intersection of Francisville, Fairmount and Spring Garden.

Baker says the pub's name will be Bar Hygge - pronounced "hYOO-guh" and taken from a Danish expression roughly translated as "cozy camaraderie." The menu will be American - a broad menu of sharable plates.

The brewery will be branded separately as Brewery Techne (say it "TECH-nee").  Like Earth Bread + Brewery's beer, Techne beer will be sold off-premises at bars.
Baker, who plans to shuttle between Mount Airy and the new place to handle the brewing for the first year, is hunting for a chef.
The rough timeline is a October opening.
