The Blue Duck to open in Center City

The Northeast Philly hit will come downtown to open a second location.

Philly is really looking like the Quacker City.

Joe Callahan Jr. and chef Kris Serviss have signed on for 212 S. 11th St. in Washington Square West.

It's now occupied by a branch of Hummus Grill, which will close at the end of the month, confirms co-owner Fabrice Saadoun. That location replaced Santa Fe Burrito Co. about 3½ years ago.

Callahan and Serviss get the keys July 1 and hope to open this fall.

This location will have a liquor license. Serviss says the Duck's downtown bill of fare will include "more health-centric" and vegan items to better reflect the neighborhood. "We wanted a restaurant with a strong point of view," said Jackie Balin of CBRE, who handled the transaction. "Blue Duck adds an approachable yet entirely unique and innovative offering to Wash West."

Ed Eimer, whose office designed the original, will be back. This location won't be as bright as the original.

Sous chef Tim Schmid will handle the cooking on Holme Avenue while Serviss runs 11th Street, Serviss said.
