Chabaa Thai moving down the street in Manayunk

Moon Krapugthong is taking over the double-wide storefront at the corner of Main and Grape Streets that formerly housed Saxbys Coffee and Main Street Market.

Moon Krapugthong, who said last month that she would relocate her long-running Chabaa Thai BYOB in Manayunk, won't be going far.

She's taking over the double-wide storefront at 4343-45 Main St., the corner of Main and Grape Streets that formerly housed Saxbys Coffee and Main Street Market.

The corner will become the main dining room, and the old Main Street Market section will house the kitchen and Chabaa’s new Thai market.

Plan is to close at 4371 Main St. on Sept. 27 and open in the new space in early 2015.

Chabaa Thai, on the street for 10 years, will be open for dinner and Sunday brunch. The dining room will be closed for lunch, but the market side (open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.) will sell quick meals and grab-and-go favorites like Pad Thai, Spicy Basil Fried Rice, Panang Curry and Fresh Thai Spring Rolls as well as containers of such items as curries and Thai sausage. Chabaa Thai will now offer a larger catering and delivery program.

Lead architect Bob Torres of Studio Torres and designer Melanie Piltch will handle the work on the 100-seater. Additional outdoor seating will accommodate 30.

In addition to the first-floor dining room and market, the building features a finished basement, which Krapugthong plans to transform into a community space.

In the meantime during construction, Krapugthong will serve selections from Chabaa Thai's menu at her Manayunk Japanese restaurant - Yanako, at 4255 Main St. - starting Sept. 28 and coinciding with Manayunk Restaurant Week.
