Construction starts on Noord's offspring, Neuf

The restaurant, with a bar, will be in the Italian Market.

Construction has at last started on Neuf - the Italian Market sibling of Joncarl Lachman and Bob Moysan's East Passyunk hit Noord.

Neuf will include a bar at 943 S. Ninth St., and Lachman reports that the liquor license is in hand.

They now hope to open in September. (Yes, it's the neuf month of the year, by coincidence. Initially, they had planned to open in May.)

The glass storefront and the distinctive black-and-white-tile entryway - across the street from Villa Di Roma, the original Di Bruno Bros., and Blue Corn - will have a French/North African theme and romantic vibe.

Lachman plans an "accessible but interesting" happy hour, e,.g. a choice of mutton burger with Brie or a bowl of kushari with a carafe of house wine at a value.

Expect entree prices under $30 - similar to Noord - with some family-style dishes and plats du jour.
