Matt & Marie's expanding to Washington Square West and Rittenhouse
The Wharton-schooled Italian-sandwich entrepreneurs found one spot on Walnut Street and a second on 18th Street.
Nicole Capp and Justin Sapolsky took their business plan for a modern Italian sandwich shop into the real world just after their graduation from the Wharton School, opening Matt & Marie's in June 2014 in 2 Logan Square (18th Street above Arch).
The shop's regulars include not only office workers but construction workers on the new Comcast tower 50 yards away.
Capp and Sapolsky are now in expansion mode. (Sapolsky and his wife, Lin, expanded personally with a daughter a year ago.)
The business partners will open a second location at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 19 at 118 S. 18th St., near Rittenhouse Square, which they're converting from Tony Jr.'s. The first floor will be set up with a counter serving not only sandwiches - which include an honest-to-South Philly roast pork - but simple pasta dishes for takeout or to eat in a second-floor dining room. This location will be open for breakfast (illy coffee, pastries), lunch, and dinner. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Menu is here.
Also, this summer, they hope to open a Matt & Marie's shop in Washington Square West, at 1107 Walnut St., where they'll occupy a former salon to the right of Top Tomato.
