Restaurant notes: Apollinare in new hands; Perrier's bakery opening

The Italian restaurant on the Piazza has given up.

Yet another change of hands at the Piazza at Schmidt's in Northern Liberties: Apollinare has bailed after a year, in favor of a new concept run by Brian Nagele, founder and president of the online entertainment publication More info to come.

Georges Perrier will open The Art of Bread, his bread bakery/cafe, on Wednesday, June 8 at 920 Montgomery Ave., across from the Staples store in Narberth (610-660-8222). It's a showcase for his executive pastry chef, Cedric Barberet. Besides putting out breads and pastries for Perrier's restaurants and other commercial clients, it will sell at retail from a counter. Panini, quiche, and other light cafe fare, plus illy coffee, will be served from from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays.
