Restaurant notes: Steak 38 reopens

The steakhouse has taken on new life.

Two South Jersey restaurant veterans are working together now.

Cherry Hill's Steak 38, the throwback-style meatery in the Hillside Inn on Route 38 near Cuthbert Boulevard for more than two decades before it shut down two years ago, has reopened. It is back under original owner Joe DiAmore. He had left to open a Steak 38 in Brigantine, which has since closed.

DiAmore is backed by Ben Blumberg, who ran the South Jersey staple Barnacle Ben's for 33 years.

The two met back in the 1960s when their fathers worked at the old Latin Casino. They later waited tables together at Chubby's.

Steak 38, open from 4 p.m. daily, is doing tableside Caesar and other salads, carved meat, and bananas Foster. Entree prices start at $19 and quickly head north from there; they're still a few bucks cheaper than before, and there's an under-$19 sandwich menu as well.
