Smart Street: Healthful food option coming to Rittenhouse

An offshoot of Manhattan's Juice Healthy Kitchen is setting up near 19th and Market Streets.

Rittenhouse has been getting healthful options of late: Snap Kitchen's refrigerated meals to go at 19th and Chestnut; sweetgreen's salads at 1821 Chestnut St., Farmer's Keep's salads at 10 S. 20th St., and Sip N Glo's juices at 257 S. 20th St.

Here's one on the way that puts it all together:

Smart Street Healthy Kitchen & Juice Bar - a rebranding of Jeff and Graceann Tinney's Juice Healthy Kitchen in Midtown Manhattan - is coming to 38 S. 19th St., which previously housed Kaufman's Deli and a branch of Famous 4th Street Deli. The couple are working with Graceann's brother, Joey Taormina.

Jeff Tinney promises healthful food - wraps/panini, salads, and entrees with 99 percent of the food made in-house and most items grilled or baked. He said Smart Street will source produce and proteins from local farms in season and will seek quality all-natural, GMO-free, and organic items when possible.

There will be a squeezed-to-order juice and smoothie bar that also will serve organic acai bowls.

Though the dining room will have 50 to 60 seats, they plan on a strong takeout and delivery business as well as partnerships with fitness and health clubs. The format is not entirely defined; Jeff Tinney says they may go with counter service by day and waiter service over dinner.

They are aiming for an Aug. 1 opening but there is a lot of work to be done.

By the way: Graceann Tinney knows the area well; the Taorminas used to own Dolce Carini, an Italian restaurant, at the other end of the block as well as Taormina's of Richboro. The family still has the Taormina's location in Ivyland.
