Greater Philadelphia Expo Center hosts Too Many Games festival

If you couldn’t get enough of Wizard World’s Comic Con, the Too Many Games expo arrives at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center on Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 27.

If you couldn't get enough of Wizard World's Comic Con, the Too Many Games expo arrives at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center (100 Station Ave.) on Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 27.

The three-day festival is an ideal weekend pick for anyone interested in gaming. From game consoles, Pokémon battles, and even video game burlesque, guests are in for the ultimate geek treat.

Here are a few highlights for the weekend.

A major part of gaming is tournaments, and this festival is jam packed with all different kinds. Whether you're an ace behind the wheel in Mario Cart or brutal in Mortal Kombat, bring a controller and take home gold. Competitive gaming options include:  Mortal Kombat X (Xbox one), Dr. Mario (NES), Super Smash Bros (WII U), Mark of the Wolves (NEO GEO), Magical Drop 3 (NEO GEO), Mario Kart 8 (WII U), Warlords (Atari 2600), Pokémon Puzzle League (N64), and Pokémon Oras (3DS).

For those who are trickier with table-top gaming: All week long, various gaming companies will offer competitive play at their stations, ranging from simple play to strategic warfare.

Card gamers — fear not — the festival didn't forget about you. Grab your favorite stack and compete in Magic the Gathering, and Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments.

Pikachu and the gang are getting a major spotlight this year as a one-on-one Pokémon competition is scheduled as the main event. The handheld gaming area invites gamers to line up their best Pokémon as they battle for victory. To enter, each person is required to have their own Pokemon Omega Ruby or Alpha Sapphire game on a Nintendo 2DS or 3DS system.

On Friday, the entertainment takes stage as Broad St. Burlesque's finest talent puts on a nerdy, yet seductive show. Beginning at 8:30 p.m., guests can take pleasure in gaming-themed performances by: Dangrrr Doll, Hattie Harlowe, Margot Starlux, Adelaide A la Mode, Bettzo, and Liberty Rose.

If you always wished to see Mario square off against Marvel's Deadpool, now you can as Cosplay Pro Wrestling presents The Super Smash Bros SMASH-tacular tournament. On Saturday, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., watch as power bombs, clotheslines, and more take place in the squared circle.

Wrestlers and burlesque dances aren't the only ones in costume. All guests are encouraged to dress up in their favorite characters attire for a chance to win prizes and to get their outfit on a Cartoon Network commercial.

You're not missing out on live tunes here. Throughout the three days over a handful of DJs, bands, and solo sets are scheduled to perform their music that all involves around games. Some artists for the evening include: Descendants of Erdrick, Those Who Fight, The Living Tombstone, Mega Ran, and DJ Cutman.

Convention hours:
2 p.m. to 10 p.m., Friday, June 26
10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Sunday, June 27
10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, June28
