Young professionals wanted: Networking events in Philadelphia

It’s about that time when the stress of acing finals and getting together that final portfolio are finally over.

Congratulations, you graduated and received your degree. Now, where to begin? If you're stuck on a cloud of doubt, don't give up. Networking events, and industry meet-ups are offered throughout the summer for young professionals to get their foot in the door.

Check out these events and make a name for yourself.

Calling all workers in the service field, South Bowl Lanes (19 E. Oregon Ave.) invites you to Industry Night on Monday, May 18. From 10 p.m., mingle with others from local restaurants, bars, shops, and more while enjoying free bowling, tots, and drink specials from Philadelphia Brewing Company.

On Wednesday, May 20, application creators and tech whizzes are invited to the Quorum at the Science Center for College Demo Night from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The night will involve panel discussions and spotlights on individual creations from local students located in Philadelphia. Register here.

A celebration of urban arts and local creativity will return on Thursday, May 21, as the Mural Arts Program hosts the 2015 Wall Ball gala. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. at the Electric Factory (421 N. 7th St.) and will give guests the opportunity to bring their ideas to life through numerous platforms of work. Proceeds from the night will go toward the Mural Arts. Tickets can be purchased here.

If start-ups are the way you roll, get the 411 about starting your own brand by Slice Communications on Thursday, May 21, at the University of Arts. From 7 to 8:30 p.m. the class will cover public relations and social media strategies to help strengthen your brand and overcome your business goals. Find out how to utilize your brand during Social Media: Trends, Best Practices, and Success on Thursday, May 28, as five agencies (Brownstein, Slice Communications, True Voice Media, Bad Rhino, and Chatterblast) share their stories on the do's and dont's and how they see social media trending in the future.

Escape from the city vibes to more of a tropical scenery on Wednesday, May 20 at Morgan's Pier (221 N. Columbus Blvd.) during a free networking happy hour from 6 to 8 p.m. hosted by Harmelin Media and NBC 10. Visitors can network with communication and business professionals while enjoying drink and food specials.

Interested in landing a career in sports? On Wednesday, June 3, score a goal at PPL Park (1 Stadium Dr.) during a networking event with the Philadelphia Union. From 4:45 to 6:15 p.m., young professionals will have the opportunity to meet the staff behind the soccer team including Dave Rowan (chief revenue officer), Drew Young (VP of sponsorship), Carl Cherkin (VP of business relations), Ashley Dabb (VP, marketing/special events), and Kacy Harmon (director of ticket sales). Paul Becker, manager of corporate development of the 76ers, will be on-site, too. Registration for the event also gets you tickets to the game against the Columbus Crew at 7 p.m.

During every first Wednesday of the month, Yards Brewing invites female brewers to a monthly Lady Birds Club meeting from 6 to 8 p.m. Each month will feature a different topic about beer and will include a tasting. This is a great opportunity to chat with fellow brewers for tips and tricks of the trade. The meeting is on Wednesday, June 3.

For a picture-perfect moment: The Eastern State Penitentiary (2027 Fairmount Ave.) closes its gates exclusively for photographers on Tuesday, June 16 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Throughout the night, guests will have a chance to snap photos inside the prison and connect with others in the same field.
