Towana Goffney, the mother of twin gay-porn actors accused of moonlighting as rooftop burglars, was charged Wednesday in Philadelphia with serving as a lookout for her sons' alleged illegal escapades.
Keyontyli and Taleon Goffney, 25, were arrested Feb. 19, after police alleged that Taleon broke into Moon's Beauty Shop at 9th Street and Washington Avenue and the adjoining Wings and More by cutting rooftop holes to gain entry. Keyontyli served as a lookout and so did the family's matriarch, according to police.
The New Jersey twins are the focus of a tristate rooftop-burglary task force comprising 30 law-enforcement agencies looking into dozens of such crimes.
They've also drawn attention in the online world, where the twins, under the stage names of Keyon and Teyon, starred in several Internet hardcore gay-porn films.
After his apprehension in February, Keyontyli told police that he and his mother had served only as lookouts for his brother and that it was Taleon who had masterminded the scheme, police said.
Police arrested Keyontyli at the scene and Taleon shortly after, but Towana Goffney, 44, had left her lookout post early, police said. She was followed briefly but was let go so officers could return to the scene, said Detective Mark McCullion of the city's Major Crimes Division.
After Keyontyli implicated her as an accomplice during subsequent police interviews, Major Crimes Unit detectives, with assistance from New Jersey State Police, went to her Swedesboro, N.J., house with an arrest warrant on March 12.
"She didn't have any questions," McCullion said. "She knew who we were and why we were there."
Towana Goffney, according to police, now faces the same charges as her sons: burglary, conspiracy and related offenses.
Her preliminary hearing is scheduled in Philadelphia on April 11, the same day as her son Taleon, police said. Keyontyli already was held for court on all charges at a March 18 preliminary hearing.
During a previous interview with the Daily News, Keyontyli, who was working as a legitimate model in New York City at the time of his arrest, spoke highly of his mother, who has four sons and one daughter.
"She's a good mom," he said. "She tried to keep us always together. She had us very young. Even when people worked against us, she worked for us.
"She loved us and wanted to do good for us."
Keyontyli said that he told his mother when he was 21 that he was gay, and later informed her that he worked in Internet pornography.
"She had to be OK with it," he said. "I wanted her trust. I wanted us to be closer and I wanted for her to love me for all of me, not just the person I tried to pretend to be."
Keyontyli remains free on $200,000 bail while his brother remains in prison, his bail revoked. Towana Goffney was released from the custody of Philadelphia police yesterday morning, but officers with Major Crimes and Public Affairs did not have her bail information available. *
