In conjunction with the grand reopening of its store on Red Lion Road in Northeast Philadelphia this morning, Acme Markets will present a check for $13,611.15 to the Sgt. Stephen Liczbinski Memorial Fund.

Sgt. Liczbinski was slain May 3 in Port Richmond after responding to the robbery of a Bank of America branch inside a ShopRite at Castor and Aramingo Avenues. The 12-year veteran, who left behind his wife and three children, was killed three days before his 40th birthday.

The donation came from Acme customers and employees who put money in canisters placed at stores throughout the city in the weeks following the slaying.

The store will also present a park bench made of recycled plastic bags that will be installed in Pennypack Park. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. The store is at 920 Red Lion Rd.    - Inquirer staff
