Delco day care worker pleads guilty to pushing child down stairs
The girl was not seriously injured, according to court records.
A former Upper Darby day-care worker who was caught on camera pushing a 4-year-old girl down stairs has pleaded guilty.
Sarah Gable, 53, of Folcroft, is free on $25,000 bail awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty Tuesday to simple assault and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, the Delaware County Daily Times reported. Sentencing has been set for Aug. 16.
A surveillance camera showed Gable shoving the child down a flight of about five stairs at the Childcare of the Future day care center. She then picked up the girl and walked her down the remaining stairs. She was fired shortly after the March 3 arrest.
At the time, Superintendent of Police Michael J. Chitwood called the incident "a horrific act, a betrayal of trust," the story reported. Court records said the child did not appear to have any signs of injury, but complained of knee pain.
A first-degree misdemeanor carries a penalty of up to five years in prison.
