Overbrook man charged with murdering 2-year-old son
Quadim Bass, of the 1600 block of N. 57th Street, had told police the child had fallen down stairs. The Medical Examiner ruled otherwise and classified the death as a homicide.

A 24-year-old Overbrook man has been charged with murdering his 2-year-old son at their home last week, according to police.
Quadim Bass, of the 1600 block of North 57th Street, was arrested Monday and charged with murder and endangering the welfare of a child, police said.
Bass' son, Bashir Mungin-Bass, was found dead at the house July 14 around 1:10 p.m., police said. Bass allegedly told police that he was playing video games when he heard a thump and realized his son had fallen down the steps.
Bass told authorities he performed CPR until officers arrived, police said, but his son was declared dead at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia about an hour later.
The cause of death was later determined to be blunt trauma to the body, police said. Homicide Capt. John Ryan said Tuesday that the child’s injuries were too severe to have happened during a fall.
Bass — who Ryan said was the only person home when his son was injured — was to be held without bail following his arrest.
