WEST WINDSOR - A father-son outing to hunt Canada geese on a Mercer County farm ended in tragedy Saturday afternoon.

WEST WINDSOR - A father-son outing to hunt Canada geese on a Mercer County farm ended in tragedy Saturday afternoon.

An investigation is continuing, but West Windsor Police Lt. Matthew Kemp said the son, 45, of Chesterfield, Burlington County, died at the scene after what is believed to have been the accidental discharge of his 12-gauge shotgun at about 4:15 p.m.

He was hunting with his father, a 78-year-old Mercerville resident, at 1201 Old Trenton Rd., a farm across from Mercer County College.

Kemp said the son suffered head/neck injuries.

"All signs are leading to this being a tragic accident," Kemp said.

The two men hunted together frequently, he said.

"The family is devastated. It's a close family," he said.
