N.J. town proposes ban on most plastic bags
RED BANK, N.J. - A Monmouth County town wants to sack plastic bags that can't be recycled or composted.
The Red Bank Council introduced an ordinance Monday that would fine businesses that use them $100 as of Jan. 1. Businesses could sell reusable plastic shopping bags.
The council estimates it costs the town 17 cents a bag to dispose of them. A public hearing is scheduled for Aug. 25.
